Local Service Learning Opportunities"I will teach you to be gentle, kind and loving, in the midst of a world of violence and self-centeredness. I will show you how to become a man or woman of peace, and hope. Do not be afraid, I will show you how to live so that your whole life, your whole being, becomes a sign of the Good News." (Mark 10:17-22) Corpus Christi students work in a variety of local service agencies in short term and longer term volunteer capacities. Soup kitchens, literacy programs, homeless shelters, day care, and many other placements are available through the Student Services office. There are a variety of service opportunities available to meet student interests, gifts and talents. You can begin your service work at any time in the term and design your placement to accommodate your work, academic and other schedules.
Volunteering in your community is an excellent way to explore the needs of your community and to give you firsthand insight into your own ideas and values. Many students find that their volunteer experience directed them into their career choices or path of study in university. The co-curricular record which is attached to your transcript from Corpus Christi will document and detail in formal terms what you accomplished during your volunteer experience. Increasingly universities and employers are looking for students with a variety of life experiences in their search for ideal candidates. Further information on volunteering, placements and the co-curricular record is available in the Student Services Office located on the 2nd floor. |
