Inspiring Catholic Educator Speaks at Annual Colleges’ FundraiserFr. David G. Creamer, SJ, PhD B.Sc., B.Ed., St. Mary's University M.Div., STB, Regis College, Toronto School of Theology M.Ed., Ed.D., Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto David Creamer was born and raised in Saint John, New Brunswick. He entered the Society of Jesus of Upper Canada (Jesuits) in 1969. As a Jesuit Scholastic, he attended Gonzaga High School in St. John’s as a Chemistry teacher; leaving to continue his Theology studies in the Fall of 1974. After Ordination to the Priesthood (1977), he earned his Doctorate in Education from the University of Toronto (1982). From 1982-1988, he served as Director of St. Paul’s High School, Winnipeg, Manitoba and, in 1989, moved to St. Paul’s College at the University of Manitoba, where he holds the rank of Associate Professor. For many years, Fr. Creamer taught a course for the Religion Department, “Death and Concepts of the Future in World Religions” which routinely enrolled 200+ students (many of them from Nursing). It was this course which lead Maclean’s magazine to list him as a professor “not to be missed” at the University of Manitoba. These days, he teaches in the B.Ed. and graduate programs in the Faculty of Education, and co-ordinates (and teaches in) the interdisciplinary Minor in Catholic Studies Program in the Faculty of Arts. Two popular Field Studies courses (Italy, in May and India, in August) fill most of his summer! He is author of several articles, book chapters, and a book of his own, Guides for the Journey: John Macmurray, Bernard Lonergan, James Fowler (University Press of America, 1996), which has been reprinted twice. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Arthur V. Mauro Centre for Peace and Justice since its formation and is currently the Director of the Jesuit Centre for Catholic Studies at St. Paul’s College at the University of Manitoba. |
