University TransferHow does College to University Transfer work? The courses at CCC are the same in content, evaluation method and level of instruction as those at UBC, SFU and other universities. As a result, the courses you take here can be applied towards your degree. For example, you need to complete 120 credits to achieve a UBC Bachelor of Arts Degree. You can complete as many of 60 of those at Corpus Christi and then transfer to UBC to complete the remaining 60 credits. Who decides what will transfer?Universities and Colleges in BC create formal transfer agreements through the BC Council on Admissions and Transfer (BCCAT) which is a governmental organization. When a College creates a new course it sends its course information, via BCCAT, to the BC Universities for formal transfer credit decisions (articulations). These decisions are made by the Universities' Registrars in consultation with the professors who teach there. Our students also transfer to universities across North America where courses are assessed for transfer on a course by course basis. What do I do to ensure that a University will accept my course credits from CCC?Students should check the BC Transfer Guide found at www.bctransferguide.ca to learn what formal agreements are in place. There is no responsibility on the part of a student to confirm with anyone at UBC what transfer credit will be assigned. The decisions found online are formal agreements that will be applied to all students seeking transfer. Once a transfer credit decision is made through the BCCAT process, it is usually upheld for several years (decades in many cases). Established transfer credit agreements do not change annually, but each year there are several thousand new agreements established by BC universities and colleges. What is the process to apply for transfer to a university like UBC?Here is an outline of what would occur for any student looking to transfer from Corpus Christi College to UBC.
There is no need for any student at CCC to get special permission from UBC in order to have CCC courses accepted for transfer when they apply to UBC as long as it appears on the BCCAT website. UBC follows the established agreements as found online at www.bctransferguide.ca. If a student is a registered UBC student and wants to visit CCC to take a few courses, that student should speak to their UBC advisor to get permission. How can I get more information? We suggest that you visit the BCCAT or BC Transfer Guide websites. A publication called Transfer Tips created by BCCAT and approved by UBC is available online or through Corpus Christi and other Colleges (http://www.bccat.bc.ca/pubs/TIPS2005.pdf) . It may answer many of your questions.
